Rwanda’s most sought after attraction; the mountain gorillas are survive in the forested yet hilly terrain of Northern Rwanda- Musanze at the Volcanoes National Park. The 5 days safari explore the park’s mountains with a hike to Bisoke, gorillas and golden monkeys. It also includes a tour of Kigali city’s key attractions like the Genocide Memorial Museum, and the Kimironko market.

Day 1- Arrive at Kigali

Meet your guide at the airport on arrival and he will welcome you into Rwanda, a short briefing about the country and the safari then drive to the hotel for a night before your adventure.

Day 2-To Volcanoes National Park after a short tour of Kigali

Kigali is one of the cleanest cities in Africa and a fast growing metropolitan. After your breakfast you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi and a local market before heading for Volcanoes National Park. The park is a 3 hour drive from the city and we shall arrive in the afternoon. Check in, relax at the lodge and later visit the Ellen DeGeneres campus of Dian Fossey. A museum with history and the future of Gorilla Conservation.

Have dinner and overnight at the lodge after.

Day 3- Gorilla Tracking and cultural tour

Seeing gorillas is a magical experience. It transcends most if the wildlife experiences in Africa and for many that make it, it is a culmination of years of dreaming and planning. On your morning, the guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a trek to the mountain gorillas. You will be briefed and after park rangers, guides and porters will be with you and others in the group for the hike. It can take an hour to 5 and when you return, drive back to the lodge for either a hot lunch or refreshing before visit the Cultural center where you will be introduced to the culture of Rwanda and practices.

Day 4-Mt Bisoke Hike

Volcanoes National Park is made of dormant volcanoes. Today morning, carry your packed lunch and after breakfast head to the park offices for a briefing on the hike. You will spend  a day to summit the 3711m volcano-Bisoke that straddles the border with DRC and is one of the prominent 8 peaks that make the Virunga Massif. The day starts at 7am at the park headquarters and the trek is through different vegetation zones.

Return from the trek and recover from your hotel.

Day 5- Golden monkey tracking and to Kigali

Golden monkeys are little known primates and subspecies of the blue monkey. You might not get close them as you did with the mountain gorillas but the experience of finding them in the Bamboo zone is amazing. You will start early because the treks only happen in the morning and your guide will arrange the transfer still to the park office to meet the rangers and guides for the trek. When you return, drive to Kigali for your exit flight. You will leave typically midday or afternoon.
