Ruhija Sector of Bwindi.

Located in the eastern region of Bwindi’s impenetrable national park, the Ruhija sector is home to 400 mountain gorillas that have been left in the wild. Situated in the southwest region of Uganda, this park is one of the African national parks dedicated to the protection of mountain gorillas.

Bitukura, Oruzongo, and Kyaguriro are the three gorilla families found in the Ruhija area. There are only 16 permits available daily for mountain gorilla tracking in this area, and Ruhija had two habituation families. But once the Kyagurira family was introduced to hiking, Ruhija saw the issuance of 24 licenses.

In this field, the Kyaguriro family is set aside for research. The Kyaguriro family is trekked if formal permission from the Uganda Wildlife Authority is obtained. It should be noted that six people are permitted, rather than eight, as is the case with other gorilla families.

The truth is that, although providing a richer ecotourism experience, Ruhija has less families than Buhoma, which is constantly crowded with tourists. Ruhija is a good phenomena because of its many locations, unlike other industries.

The sector is easily accessible from both the north and the south due to its location between Kibale town to the south and Buhoma sector to the north of the park. The 218-kilometer journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park is connected via the sector. This gives those who wish to go on a gorilla hike enough time to go on a wildlife drive for the tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha area.

Apart from gorilla trekking, Ruhija offers a variety of other activities, such as bird viewing, which is a favorite pastime. In order to identify the white and black colobus monkeys that roam among the tree branches in this area, visitors can take use of the park’s primate walk.

The sector is also just a short distance from the Crater Lake of Bunyonyi, a lovely spot to unwind in the intriguing lake of hills and islands. It’s the ideal setting for canoe rides and learning about the native Batwa customs. There are other lodging options in the area, such as the Gorilla Mist Camp for tourists, among many more.
