Nyakagezi Gorilla Group

The only gorilla family found in Mgahinga National Park is the Nyakagezi gorilla group. The Mgahinga National Park in Uganda is home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, which is found in the native region of Africa.

Living in tropical rain forests with dense bamboo trees, mountain gorillas are one of the endangered species with 98% of their DNA.

Mgahinga is situated close to the impenetrable national park of Bwindi in southwest Uganda. You will be treated to a breathtaking view of the undulating hills and much more as you drive to Mgahinga National Park to meet the Nyakagezi gorilla troop.

Unlike other national parks, the Mgahinga National Park is home to 80 mountain gorillas. Additionally, there are just ten known migrants in this group. They continue to visit Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In 2012, the group went back to the park and made their home there. There are three silverbacks and ten members. More news broke in May 2013 when the group welcomed a newborn, bringing the total number of members to 11.Nyakagezi Gorilla Group
