Nairobi Animal Orphanage.
Nairobi Animal Orphanage: “Refug for the Wild” Within the Nairobi National Park is the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. It provides wild animal therapy and rehabilitation. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, serval cats, rare Sokoke cats, warthogs, leopards, different monkeys, baboons and buffalo call the Orphanage home.
One may also see parrots, guinea fowls, crowned cranes and ostriches among the other birds. Originally founded in 1964, the orphanage is the first of its type in Kenya and acts as a training and teaching center where more than twenty different animal and bird species are rehabilitated, cared for after natural abandonment or injury.
Herbivores include monkey, baboon, buffalo, warthog, as well as carnivores like lion, cheetah, rare Sokoke cat, jackal, serval, hyena, etc., Nairobi Animal Orphanage assists Commonly rescued bird species include Ostrich, parrot, Guinea fowl and crested crane as most of them live in farms and villages.
Based on the reason of their condition of orphanage, all animals get medical exams and receive required treatment before being put in feeding and rehabilitation programs. Apart from providing an educational tool for the public—mostly schoolchildren who wouldn’t otherwise have access to observe these creatures in the wild—the Nairobi Animal Orphanage is a conservation center for animals in need.
Although each of the animals in the Nairobi Animal Orphanage has been taken in by park rangers to receive medical treatment before being placed in an individualized rehabilitation program for a second chance at life, it is not quite the majesty of seeing these creatures healthy in their natural habitats. The orphanage aims to develop the animals enough that they could finally be released back into the wild.
