Kyaguriro Gorilla Group.
The Ruhija area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to five families, including the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group.
The southwest region of Uganda is home to the impenetrable Bwindi forest. Ruhija, the location of the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group, is one of the four gorilla trekking sectors in this national park.
You will undoubtedly have an exciting experience traveling to Ruhija Sector to see this gorilla group while taking in the breathtaking vistas of the undulating hills of Kigezi.
Although the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was first habituated in 1995, no tourists had visited the family at that time, and there was no guarantee that gorilla permits would be granted to hike this family. This is because the Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology had to initially separate the gorilla family for study.
The family of the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group suffered greatly on April 7, 2015, when Rukina, the group’s Silverback and then leader, was killed by lightning.
Following Rukina’s passing, the family looked to Mukazi, a young silverback, for leadership. He held the position until being ambushed by a Bitukura silverback, which caused the family to split apart. As a result, in May 2016, Kyaguriro A, Rukara, and Kyaguriro B-Mukazi were formed.
There are reportedly 15 members of the family, including two Silverbacks. This family is frequently found in the Ruhija sector’s deep woodland.
The Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was set aside for research, thus despite its familiarity, tourists have not visited it to this day.
In order to understand more about the Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi National Park, including their differences from the gorillas who live in the Virunga Conservation Area, the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was set aside for research.
This family’s history began with an elderly silverback named Zeus, who was exiled by his adversary Rukina and died there. Have fun while you’re in the Ruhija sector.
