Karisimbi Gorilla Group (Susa B)
Karisimbi Gorilla Group susa b: The Virunga Conservation Area is home to over ten habituated mountain gorilla families, including the Karisimbi Gorilla Group, which receives only eight visitors per day, including those who wish to spend a whole hour with these critically endangered primates.
Nyagakangaga, a dominant and ambitious Silverback, is currently in charge of the Karisimbi Gorilla Group. He will stop at nothing to keep his family safe. After splitting from the Susa Gorilla group in 2009, the group was formed.
By then, Nyagakangaga had abruptly split up with 13 members and relocated to create his own mountain gorilla family, known as the Susa B group. In 2010, this group was renamed Karisimbi. The tallest summit among the Virunga Volcanoes, Karisimbi Mountain, is reportedly traversed by the gorilla family.
There are currently eleven members in this group, including two newborns, four silverbacks, one blackback, and one adult female. This family used to have fifteen members, but regrettably, one part split off to create a new group with a few more people.
It appears that this group formed its own group close to a Karisimbi caldera. Since the group occasionally travels to higher altitudes, a trip to this group might take an entire day, providing the trekkers with a completely different physical challenge.
This group in particular is highly recommended if you need to exhaust yourself when gorilla trekking in Rwanda because it is one of the most difficult mountain gorilla groups to walk in the volcanoes. To make trekking simpler for visitors, park officers and guides find the group first, so you shouldn’t be too concerned about this.
The Karisimbi Gorilla Group is a must-tour. Just reserve a reasonably priced Rwandan gorilla safari today, and we will plan an incredible journey for you to spend an hour up close and get to know this family in their natural habitat. Because gorilla permits are less expensive in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you might also choose to trek there.
