The lodge gets its name from a native Luo word ‘Paraa,’ signifying ‘the place of hippos.’ Perched atop a hill, Paraa Lodge offers breathtaking views of the wildlife in the national park and the iconic River Nile.
Paraa Safari Lodge became a renowned destination in 1959 when it welcomed Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother of the British Empire. The lodge has welcomed notable figures, including former US President Theodore Roosevelt.

Paraa Safari Lodge is located roughly 5 hours from Kampala City, making for an exciting 300km road trip. Travelers arriving at Entebbe International Airport will embark on a 340 km journey to the lodge, which will take approximately 6 hours to complete.

Travelers looking to explore Paraa safari lodge have the option to book a chartered flight from Entebbe International Airport to Pakuba or Bugungu Airstrip, both located within the breathtaking Murchison Falls National Park, just an hour away by air.
