Are Mountain Gorillas Dangerous animals ?
Before embarking on a gorilla hike, many people wonder if mountain gorillas are dangerous creatures. The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Virunga National Park in Congo are home to mountain gorillas, a species of wild ape found in Africa.
Mountain Gorillas are the largest primates in the world, sharing 98% of their body mass with humans. The mountainous regions of the rain forest are home to mountain gorillas. Eleven of the twelve habituated gorilla families in Uganda reside in the four sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the country’s oldest and largest national park. These sectors are Rushaga, Ruhijah, Buhoma, and Nkuringo.
Being extremely timid and reserved among humans, mountain gorillas only attack when they feel threatened or when someone misbehaves.
When mountain gorillas are hiking and they notice any sudden movement, the male silverback roars, thumping their breast and bluff charges. At a distance of one meter, the gorilla will run quickly and stop in front of the human.
Though someone may misbehave and act out, we advise against it if the gorilla attacks. Until assistance arrives, squat down, gaze at the ground, and then express interest in grooming the gorilla’s hand by slapping your lips.
Because gorillas are stronger than humans and constantly want to experience giants, you should not flee as this could lead to an attack. The mountain gorilla will bite you if you tend to flee; he may bite your hand, buttocks, or leg, leaving a large wound.
