Akagera National Park Rwanda

Akagera National Park Rwanda.

The river that flows through this national park is the source of its name. The park is savannah in nature and is one of Rwanda’s natural gems. It will always remind you of the savannah reserves in Kenya and Tanzania, only from a picturesque perspective. The vast savannah plains, hills, crocodile and hippos-filled lakes, broad-leaved woods, and candelabra Euphoria trees are also present.

The Akagera National Park is home to lions, burchell zebras, elephants, masai giraffes, buffaloes, and numerous antelope species, such as topis, defassa waterbuck, roan antelopes, bohor reedbuck, large Eland antelopes, Oribi common duiker, semi-aquatic sitstunga antelopes, and klipspringers.

In addition, there are several groups of olive baboons, velvet monkeys, wide-eyed bush infants, and blue monkeys in the privates. Along with the black masked civet, black-tailed mongoose, warthogs, bush pigs, serval cats, and the catlike genet, you will also sometimes spot lions.Akagera Wildlife Safari

There are more than 520 bird species in this national park, and 100 of them are unique to Akagera National Park, making it a natural treasure for birdwatchers. There are more than forty-four species of raptors, shoebills, papyrus gonolex, and several migratory birds, such as the lesser kesterel and the great snipe.Akagera National Park Rwanda.

The northern boundary of several Zambezi native species, including as the long-tailed cistoa, Sauza shrike, and arnot chat, is also represented by this national park. The most distinctive aspect of this national park is the sense of isolation; you may travel for hours without seeing another car, which is also a unique experience in East Africa.

A barrier has also been built to protect the park animals from poachers and those who want to infringe and bring in their cattle for grazing. This national park is also well worth a visit and is full of surprises. This national park makes the safari fully rounded and also provides you the most that Rwanda has to offer for those interested in a savannah safari excursion.

Since African parks joined the effort, Akagera National Park’s roads have been renovated, enabling several wildlife drives over the plains, hills, and lakes. These often happen in the morning and afternoon, but they may even go on for a whole day, which includes seeing the Akagera nocturnal animals or touring the north with night game drives.

Great aquatic birds may be seen on boat tours along the banks of Lake Ihema, Rwanda’s second-largest lake. You can also go fishing at Lake Shakani. The majority of African parks also provide visitors the opportunity to meet the personnel and receive a behind-the-scenes look at how the national park is run. Due to Rwanda’s strong gender equality policies, the park features a large number of female guides, which is uncommon on many safaris in Africa.

The Akagera Game Lodge

The Akagera Game Lodge
If baboons are your thing, Akagera Game Lodge is the place to stay. We only stopped there once, so I didn’t get the opportunity to visit the rooms, but the whole area was lovely, and the lodge was very lovely. This lodge is only adequate. The Akagera Game Lodge

This lodge, which is close to the lodge entrance, has a tennis court, business amenities, a swimming pool, and a variety of safari activities including game drives, fishing, and bird watching. This stunning resort is available year-round and is well-known for providing more than 64 quarters. At the moment, it is the sole facility within the park’s limits.

This is more of a hotel than a typical safari lodge. It provides the greatest views of Lake Ihema since it is situated along its shoreline. A large, dirt-free swimming pool with wings at the edge of the expansive savannah is another feature. The lodge also provides a meeting space, a range of fauna, and an impressively laid-back attitude that is perfect for the quiet gateway.

Tented Lodge Ruzizi

You might choose Ruzizi Tented Lodge for a more costly vacation. The park has the greatest lodging, and as the name implies, you will sleep in the safari tents, which are quite fashionable and placed in a beautiful location on the park’s lakes.

The tents cost $165 for international guests and $130 for domestic residents, and they can accommodate two people. This also covers breakfast and supper, which further indicates that this lodge offers significantly greater value for your money than Akagera Game Lodge. Additionally, there are nine tents, although on weekends, they fill up quickly. The cuisine has also received great reviews, and the showers are admired by the public.

Karenge Bush Camp

I’ve heard great things about this chic camp, which is only open from June 1st to August 31st and from mid-December to the end of February each year. This camp also costs $150 per person on a full board basis, but you should check the rates before making a reservation because it is more rustic than the Ruzizi tented camp.

The experience is incredibly opulent, and the staff takes great care of the guests by providing them with comfortable beds, cold drinks, three-course meals, and a lovely setting. Additionally, there is no cement in this low-impact camp, and everything is closed up when you leave. This is another excellent example of a new park effort, and I’m interested in giving it a try.

Regarding the lodging.

Safari Lodges and Camps in the National Park of Akagera:

Apart from camping, Akagera National Park now offers only two lodging choices. The Ruzizi Tented Lodge, located near the main entrance in the south, opened its doors in 2013. It’s a nice bush camp near the shores of Lake Ihema and is run by African Parks.

The alternative may be Akagera Game Lodge, which has been restored for many years and is currently operational despite its mediocre quality. Discover the finest of Africa by traveling to Rwanda.Rwanda’s Akagera River.

Future plans call for the addition of more campgrounds in the park’s northern section, so customers may get in touch with us for the most recent information on these campers. In the meanwhile, any Akagera safari allows you to spend a full day exploring the northern plains before returning to Ruzizi Tented Lodge.
