Agashya Gorilla Group
Agashya Gorilla Group: There are over ten gorilla families in Rwanda, and only eight persons are permitted to hike with a gorilla family at a time, for a daily total of 80 gorilla permits. The Agashya Gorilla Group is just one of the distinctive mountain gorilla families, each of which has its own distinct personality and set of physical traits.
Due to Rwanda’s remarkable conservation achievements, the Agashya Gorilla Group’s membership grew from 13 to 25 members, which now includes 12 females, 3 black back gorillas, and 7 offspring. The 13 group was the previous name for this group.
This group was named for Agashya, a strong Silverback who gained leadership after defeating Nyakairima, the previous group leader, in one of the bloodiest battles that took place in the park.
Following his victory in this life-or-death conflict, Agashya made the decision to relocate his entire family to the hillsides in order to avoid being bothered by any future intruders.
One of the most determined silverbacks among the others is the Agashya Gorilla Group, which works extremely hard to grow his family. This helps to explain why the family went from having just 12 members to having 25 in a short period of time.
In addition to being a very protective leader, Agashya exhibits many other admirable traits of a successful leader, such as his keen awareness of danger and his fierce defense of his family.
He travels with his family every day, which occasionally makes it difficult for gorilla hikers to find them. The park rangers and guides move much more quickly than the trekkers, making it difficult to find the family where they are engaged in their daily routines. Please be aware that these are untamed creatures that frequently wander the park.
Do you want to go on an Agashya gorilla trek? To track this group, eight Rwanda gorilla licenses are available. We will reserve these permits for you if you get in touch with us beforehand.
