Nkuringo Community Conservation and Development Foundation (NCCDF)
NCCDF-Nkuringo is situated on a hillside that borders Bwindi Forest National Park, offering a broad perspective of Congo. As you go to Nkuringo, you will be treated to breathtaking vistas of the undulating hills and the rocky roads. Nkuringo is, in my opinion, a lovely destination to visit and take in the stunning landscape and cultural experiences.
Through the head craft shops, which are manufactured by locals and sold to tourists, NCCDF helps the women in the community. Additionally, the development teaches orphans how to sing and perform for guests at the closed lodges. Make time to visit Nicalas, a Stone Age blacksmith whose industrious Nicolas hammers transformed metal into arrows, hoes, pangas, and utensils.
When you visit Sessile’s house, you can see a number of traditional huts, grinding stones, Waragi distillation equipment, cooking pots, and much more. Experience the fantastic opportunity to learn from a local doctor who is well-versed in all the native plants used to cure the community by visiting a traditional healer who employs medicine from the forests.
Have the opportunity to see how the local schools study with a positive attitude, sometimes without computers or shoes. Some students come from a long way, but they manage to get to school on time without the use of cars or school buses. It’s an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In every community home under the development of NCCDF-Nkuringo, visit the local community workers as they go about their daily lives, washing, grinding food for consumption, and sharing meals. A tour guide who is knowledgeable about every activity in this emerging area leads these community walks.
Meeting the locals at this conservation and development organization is a fantastic experience. Being away from home gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about a different culture.
