Bitukura Gorilla Group

The Ruhija area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in southwest Uganda is home to the Bitukura Gorilla family.

It turns out that this group has the most individuals among the mountain gorilla groups in the impassable national park of Bwindi. In the end, it had 14 members, including 4 Silverbacks, down from its initial 24.

Ndahura, the group’s second youngest silverback, has been in charge for the past few years after succeeding Karamusizi, the previous leader.

Unfortunately, when the 40-year-old silverback passed away, Karamusizi’s years of supremacy and pride came to an end.Bitukura Gorilla Group

The Bitukura Gorilla Group

The Bitukura River in the forest, where the family was initially observed, inspired the name of the Bitukura Gorilla Group. This family’s habituation began in 2007, but in 2008 it was made accessible to tourists. This group’s training and habituation period was one of the quickest ever, lasting only 15 months as opposed to the minimum suggested 2-year period.

The Kyaguriro Gorilla Group and the Bitukura Gorilla Group have a strong friendship and frequently interact, which is one of the reasons why their habituation never took so long. This family is serene, content, and very connected to one another, even though some members have passed away.

The number of members in this family has grown as a result of the newcomers who joined in 2013 and the recent birth from Ruhara. The Bitukura Gorilla Group was ecstatic to see a newborn gorilla born, a creation that Ndahura, the family’s leader, is prepared to defend with his own life.

Given that you must arrive at the park’s headquarters in time for the pre-briefing meeting, you must obtain Rushaga gorilla trekking permits in order to trek the Bitukura group.

Bitukura Gorilla Group can accommodate up to eight individuals each day.
