Oruzogo Gorilla Family
The Ruhija area of the Bwindi impenetrable woodlands in southwest Uganda is home to the Oruzogo gorilla family. One of Africa’s largest parks, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to mountain gorillas.
There are ten habituated gorilla families in the park, and the Oruzogo gorilla family is one of them.
More than 400 mountain gorillas, or about half of all gorillas worldwide, are protected at Bwindi Forest National Park. The mountain gorillas in this distinct park are thought to be a different species than those that live in the Virungas.
Among the biggest group of primates, mountain gorillas share 98% of their DNA with humans, making them an endangered species.
The Ruhija area of the thick forest of Bwindi is the site of a foot journey with the Oruzogo gorilla family. Since tourists first came to see the family in 2011, everyone who goes there falls in love.
The Gorilla Family of Oruzogo
With 22 members, including two silverbacks, the group is sizable. “Tibirikwata,” the family’s leader, is one of the group’s leaders, along with Kaganga (the behemoth), Bwoba (the coward), and Busungu (the short-tempted).
Numerous births have expanded the family. Among the women in the group were Musi, who gave birth in October 2011, and Nta Murungi, who gave birth in June 2011.
When Kakobe the female gave birth to twins in 2012, there was even more happiness. The family’s lively, rambunctious babies keep guests delighted and make them want to stay longer.
In the Ruhija sector, the family is the second habituated family. Get ready early in the morning and go to the park headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla trekking experience with this family. Although it’s not an extremely strenuous walk, it does call for stamina and physical conditioning.
Spend an hour observing the family’s daily routines, including playing, feeding, grooming, displaying their nests, and many other things.
