Rushaga Sector | Region of Bwindi.
The Rushaga region is located in the southern section of Bwindi, the impenetrable national park, which is well-known in the tourism industry for preserving the endangered “mountain gorilla” species. It is one of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park’s four sectors.
The park is home to 400 wild apes, including the popular mountain gorillas that have been left in the wild. The Rushaga sector is home to five gorilla families, which is one of the largest numbers in the area.
The Nshongi, Busingye, Kungye, Bweza, and Mishaya families are protected in the area. Compared to other Bwindi regions, you have the advantage of learning about the Rushaga sector and the reasons you should trek there from this post.
WHY IT IS SUGGESTED TO TRAK IN THIS AREA
When traveling to Rushaga, you can see the mountains and volcanoes in the distance, but the finest views are of the Virunga, Gahinga, and Muhavura. The scenery is breathtaking, and you can see “Lake Bunyonyi,” which is Africa’s deepest crater lake.
You will be ecstatic as you drive through this area because of the breathtaking landscape; the hills and valleys will astound you. In addition, you will be able to appreciate the beauty of Kisoro district, which is regarded as the Switzerland of Uganda.
Since 40 permits are sold each day and eight people are permitted to trek each Gorillla family—although four people are grouped to carry our habituation in this region—it is very easy to book your permit in advance due to the variety of habituated Gorilla families in this sector. Additionally, this is the only sector with two habituated Gorilla families.
Since the gorilla families are spread out across the region, it is advised that you inquire about the family of your choice before obtaining a permit. Depending on your level of physical fitness, you may be able to trek more than one family in this area because the rangers are aware of each family’s location.
In contrast to other places where lodges are owned by foreign investors, the Rushaga region is home to a variety of lodges, all of which are owned by members of the local community. Rushaga Gorilla Camp, Gorilla Safari Lodge, Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge, Nshongi Gorilla Camp, and more lodges are available for overnight stays during trekking in Rushaga.
You will have the opportunity to participate in the community and development sector in this area.
