Nature walks & hiking in Pian Upe Game Reserve – Kidepo Valley National Park Uganda.
Nature hikes and treks. Covering a total area of 2043 sq km, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve is situated in northeastern semi-arid section of Uganda. After the Murchison Falls National Park, undoubtedly among the most beautiful sites in the nation, it is indisputably the biggest wildlife reserve in the country and the second largest protected area in Uganda.
The Game Reserve is around 90km from Mbale Town over a rough road; Pian Upe’s Headquarters at MoruaJore is situated approximately 8 ½ ½ hours by road from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, and about 2 ½ hours from the magnificent Sipi Falls, in Kapchorwa region, on the borders of Mount Elgon. From Pian Upe, you may also travel for around five hours toward creating the ideal break for a safari to the actual wilderness of Africa.
Pian Upe Mean refers to what?
Among the Karamajong people of northern Uganda, Pian is a subgroup or clan name. Mostly pastoralists, they have somewhat conventional lives with their livestock as their central focus. Mostly found in the Nakapiripirit area near the Reserve Headquarters is this group.
Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve’s climate and visiting timing
To really taste what the nature reserve is all about, you must at least spend two days in Pian Upe. This Game Reserve has a semiarid temperature with just one main rain season running all year long.
The Girik River defines the southern edge of the reserve; its brown waters are a boon for the species of the park in such a semi-arid environment.
Although the rain is erratic in this region of the nation, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve gets the most of it throughout the months of March, April, May and June. The game drive paths, including the major highways, are almost inaccessible during this time; furthermore, the grasses are rather thick, which makes seeing animals quite difficult.
flora:
dominated by plateaus carpeted by green and golden undisturbed and wooded savannah plains ringed by mountains and cut in-between by rock-strewn ridges and Kopjes, this area of northeastern Uganda is without doubt one of the remotest, but also one of the most beautiful stretches of distinct wild lands in the country.
Though they also include bristle species, lemon grasses, and beard grasses, the reserve’s plains are mostly composed of thatching grass. Red acacia, desert date, bush willows and plants like the wooly caper bush and the butterfly pea embellish the wide plains.
Fauna:
Though not well-known, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve stands out among the other popular wildlife sites in the nation for hosting rather a large number of rare species found nowhere else in Uganda, including a healthy cheetah population and Uganda’s only surviving roan antelope population.
The low visitor counts ensure that every view of any kind of wildlife is private, intimate, and personal unlike the throngs that define the major wildlife sites of Africa.
