In addition to the three-day gorilla trek in Rwanda, you will have the opportunity to join a community walk or see the city of Kigali and the Twin Lakes. The only mountain gorilla park in the nation, Volcanoes National Park, also known as Parc Nationale des Volcans (PNV), offers visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend up to an hour with these gentle giants.
The 3-day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari is a condensed gorilla safari that is ideal for those who want to experience gorilla trekking in Rwanda. The quickest journey from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park for a 3-day gorilla trek takes around two hours and twenty minutes. Visitors arriving and going via Kigali International Airport may use this route.
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali International Airport for a short city tour then to Volcanoes National Park.
Your three-day Rwanda Gorilla tour guide will be waiting to greet you at Kigali International Airport. A plaque with your names on it will make it easy to identify him or her. You take a city tour and have lunch in Kigali after leaving the airport.
On a brief city tour of Kigali, you stop at a few historical and cultural locations, such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial. You have lunch after the city tour before starting the trip northwest of Rwanda to go on a gorilla expedition. The trip takes around two hours and passes through Rwanda’s beautiful scenery. You get to the park around nightfall and get into a reserved room.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Cultural Tour
After breakfast, you are driven to the park headquarters by your driver-guide, who will take you up at the lodge. The park warden gives you a tutorial on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda when you first arrive at the park headquarters in Kinigi.
The park ranger guide will drop you off at the trekking starting site for the gorilla hike around 8:30 am. Eight visitors, including one gorilla family, are granted Rwanda hiking permits, which cost USD 1500 each.
With armed ranger guides, each of the eight people treks through the bamboo forest for two to six hours. But you only get to spend an hour (60 minutes) with the mountain gorillas. The duration of the walk varies based on the movements of the gorilla groups, but it is simple to trek since the Rwandan population is known to go shorter distances.
You stroll back to the park headquarters after spending an hour with a gorilla family, where you meet the tour guide to be taken back to your accommodation. You have the option of going on a community stroll this evening or seeing the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Day 3: Departure via Kigali International Airport
Following breakfast this morning, you will be driven back to Kigali International Airport in preparation for your departure flight. If you would want to buy for crafts before your trip, our driver guide may take you to souvenir stores based on the time of your flight.
